Viewed on DVD.  I found Doubt to be a very good movie with, of course, excellent performances.  You can’t get any better than Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the priest and Meryl Streep as the head nun.  I don’t agree with criticisms that Streep’s performance was too over-the-top.  She just seemed to decide exactly who her character was and just became that person.  Within all the morality stuff in this film, I thought one valuable message was that good people are not necessarily always likeable people, and that it takes courage and conviction to be an unliked person in order to fulfill one’s obligations.  This is not to say that any character was perfect in this film, as it is all about moral grey areas.  This film reminded me that regardless of good or bad observed behavior, it is wise to examine and understand one’s own, as well as others’, motives.  Perhaps the most difficult part is coming to, and sticking to, conclusions.  Metacritic gives it a 68.
