Viewed in the theater. I liked this movie and thought it was very funny for the most part. It had its weaknesses, sometimes going too over the top. What I thought was best about the movie was its exploration of male lingo and how it is so essential to a male’s need to be cool. I am not giving anything away by revealing that the main character is clueless in this regard, as he is with other social aspects of (stereo)typical male life. The reality is that most males put a significant amount of energy into cultivating their lingo, but nobody really ever completely masters it. Just like anyone’s sport/art/craft/skill, one’s lingo is constantly evolving. The best lingo practitioners know what continues to work with which friends or audience, but they also know how to keep things fresh. However, some lingo terms never go away, e.g. “man,” though it may certainly be “mangled” or distorted.
Metacritic gives it a 70.
